There are perhaps few things that better entice someone out of their Friday morning slumber (especially after a busy Thursday night at City Hall) than a good old Ulster fry, which is exactly what our prayer breakfast guests enjoyed today as church and business leaders met together at the Agape Centre, Belfast.
We heard from Dolway Johnston, Chairman of Cyril Johnston, Rebekah Johanson, Owner of Lines & Current and Martin Agnew, Managing Director Henderson Group. Each shared about their own journey into business, the underpinning of trust in God through their work, and some of the challenges they face. Church leaders listened and had a chance to pray for the business community at the end of the breakfast.
+ A theme that ran throughout the input from each of the speakers was the move from ‘secular v sacred’ to an understanding that everything is spiritual and mission is everywhere.
+ Each of the panellists also highlighted the importance of generosity in their businesses, sharing about giving models and ways they seek to bless the communities around them.
+ Finally, common ground was evident in terms of the questions both church and business leaders face: why do you what you do? How are you changing things? What is your vision?
At a time when both the business and church communities are facing great challenges and opportunities for growth in NI, this was a poignant collision of two worlds finding they are in fact one.
